MICROSILICA

MicroSilica, also known as Silica fume, is a by-product of producing silicon metal or ferrosilicon alloys. Microsilica consists primarily of amorphous (non-crystalline) silicon dioxide (SiO2). The individual particles are extremely small, approximately 1/100th the size of an average cement particle. Because of its fine particles, large surface area, and the high SiO2 content, silica fume is a very reactive pozzolan when used in concrete.

Fly Ash

Fly Ash is a fine, grey, amorphous powder. It is rich in silica & alumina and spherical in shape. The properties of Fly Ash may vary widely, both physically and chemically, depending upon the nature of coal, the efficiency of coal combustion process and the selection process.
In coal-fired thermal power plants, coal is first ground to the fineness of powder. When blown into the power plant’s boiler, the carbon is consumed – leaving molten particles rich in silica, alumina and calcium. These particles solidify as microscopic, glassy spheres that are collected from the power plant’s exhaust before they can ‘fly’ away hence the name is fly ash (pulverized fuel ash).It is a natural by-product from coal combustion, and is not manufactured.

White Portland cement or white ordinary Portland cement (WOPC) is similar to ordinary, grey Portland cement in all aspects except for its high degree of whiteness. Obtaining this colour requires substantial modification to the method of manufacture, and because of this, it is somewhat more expensive than the grey product.

White Portland cement is used in combination with white aggregates to produce white concrete for prestige construction projects and decorative work. White concrete usually takes the form of pre-cast cladding panels, since it is not economical to use white cement for structural purposes. White Portland cement is also used in combination with inorganic pigments to produce brightly coloured concretes and mortars. Ordinary cement, when used with pigments, produces colours that may be attractive, but are somewhat dull. With white cement, bright reds, yellows and greens can be readily produced. Blue concrete can also be made, at some expense. The pigments may be added at the concrete mixer. Alternatively, to guarantee repeatable colour, some manufacturers supply ready-blended coloured cements, using white cement as a base. The whiteness of WOPC is measured as the powdered material having a reflectance value (“L value”) in excess of 85%. A particular success in the use of WOPC and added pigments is monocouche renders.
